Tasks of the Crisis & Disaster Management Unit
The roles and tasks of the Crisis & Disaster Management Unit are divided into three phases as follows:
Phase 1 — Pre-crisis
Prepare an operations room for crisis and disaster management equipped with appropriate communication devices.
Identify potential crises according to the institute environmental analysis, and determine strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
Plan (preventive forecasting) for potential crises in the near or distant future.
Prepare plans and draw scenarios for crisis management and response.
Take preventive measures to prevent the occurrence of crisis or disaster.
Prepare for incident handling, such as training the unit team and maintaining response equipment.
Raise cultural awareness on crisis management through workshops and training to improve staff and faculty competence.
Phase 2 — Response and Containment
Implement the plans and scenarios previously prepared and trained for.
Carry out response and relief operations according to the type of crisis.
Perform urgent emergency services.
Execute evacuation procedures when necessary.
Monitor the event and follow developments continuously and determine required actions via the operations room.
Phase 3 — Recovery
Assess losses to people and facilities.
Rehabilitation and rebuilding to resume activities and protect against future risks.
Evaluate measures taken to handle the crisis and identify weaknesses and strengths.
Document the event, provide recommendations, and update plans accordingly.
